2013 Opening Night Film Mud

Earlier this week, the nominees for the Independent Spirit Awards were announced, and we couldn't be more ecstatic with the number of Atlanta Film Festival (ATLFF) alums we recognize. Opening and Closing Night Films from the 2013 festMud and The Spectacular Now, each made the list twice. It's been nearly 5 years since Haifaa Al Mansour participated in our 2009 screenplay retreat with her script for Wadjda. The resulting film has built up buzz and critical acclaim since debuting at the 69th Venice Film Festival, now Mansour is competiting for a Spirit Award in the Best First Feature category alongside 2013 alum Stacie Passon (Concussion). I'm particularly proud of A River Changes Course. We take great pride in the quality of documentaries we select and A River being our 2013 Jury Award winner represents the fest well.

The 2014 ceremony will premiere on IFC, Saturday , March 1st, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT, with Patton Oswalt hosting (check Oswalt in 2009's Big Fan if you haven't) . You can read the full list of nominees below, with the current alums--as well as past alums we noticed--higlighted in bold. You can also find the list on Deadline Hollywood.

ATLFF 13 Selection Exploring Cyberbullying Now Available Free Online

The team behind 2013 ATLFF selection Submit the Documentary  are committed to expanding the conversation around cyberbullying, educating the public, and developing response strategies.

Cyberbullying remains a much discussed issue, as it seems every few months a major incident appears in the news to remind us that it's a problem that's not going away anytime soon.

The team behind 2013 ATLFF selection Submit the Documentary  are committed to expanding the conversation around cyberbullying, educating the public, and developing response strategies. They've released the film, which delves into the topic from multiple angles, in its entirety for FREE to Youtube and Vimeo. Freely share the links with anyone that has a vested interest in the health and welfare of our kids, which goes beyond educators and parents, and includes our community-at-large. Visit the Submit website for DVDs of the film, as well as educational kits, and complimentary educational downloads for parents, teachers and teens.

Submit the Documentary exposes the most epic struggle in the digital, Internet age: cyberbullying.  Cyberbullying is bullying by means of electronic technology committed through email, instant messaging, mobile applications, social media, chat rooms, and blogs or through messages and images sent through a cell phone. Because of the anonymity, kids who never thought of being a bully are becoming harassers. By exploring the complicated dynamics behind cyberbullying, Submit the Documentary describes the impact and outcomes of advanced technology and human nature in a lawless, new, social frontier.
